Hattieville Mother Loses Home in Fire, Suspects Foul Play

A Hattieville mother has been left homeless after a fire destroyed her house. Police are investigating the blaze, which homeowner Therese Jacobs’ fears may have been deliberately set amid a family dispute.

Jacobs was away working in Punta Negra when she received the call that her home was burning. “I’m crying because I cannot do nothing… It’s like someone push their hands in my chest and open it,” she said.

She believes the fire may have been deliberately set, linking it to ongoing family tensions and suspicious activity around her property. Jacobs told News Five that a young man staying at her home had received threats, and she had previously noticed tampering with her electrical meter. “He was doing it for a long time because I used to hear the noise and I’m always wondering, what is that noise?'” she explained.

With only a few belongings left, Jacobs is appealing to the public for help as she tries to rebuild. “I need some help. I need some support… I have no clothing,” she pleaded.

In the meantime, Jacobs says she is struggling emotionally and physically as she begins the process of starting over.
