Here’s One Way You Can Join the Season of Giving

What if giving a little could make Christmas magical for a child? Each year, there’s an initiative that gives you the chance to do just that.

The Salvation Army has once again launched its annual Kettle Drive. It’s a campaign that gathers donations to bring warmth, meals, and holiday cheer to children and families in need.

The drive officially kicked off this morning, with organisers hoping to raise enough to provide Christmas dinners and gifts for close to a thousand Belizean children.

Major Marc Eddy Momplaisir, District Officer for the Salvation Army, said, “It is a joy. It is really love. So having Kettle launching today in Belize, it means love. It means compassion. You see hope, and you see children who are already happy because they believe the Salvation Army will bring something to them. All funds raised from the kettle, firstly, will stay right in Belize, and we are going to support more than eight hundred children, sometimes go to thousand when we go to other communities.”

Last year’s campaign reached just over 75% of its target. With this year’s goal set at $100,000, Momplaisir remains hopeful and optimistic that it’s achievable.

“On my own I cannot raise it, but I strongly believe if all our stakeholders, partners and all Belizeans really come together, we’ll make it happen,” he said.

Volunteers will be stationed near banks and superstores for the next few weeks to remind Belizeans that every coin goes towards children and the elderly.
