Hey Abbz: Handmade Jewelry That Lets You Make Every Piece Your Own
Turning a Childhood Passion into a Business
Handmade jewelry and personalized charms took center stage on Open Your Eyes as Abigail Bood, founder of Hey Abbz, showcased her collection and shared the story behind her entrepreneurial journey.
Abigail explained that her interest in making jewelry began when she was young. Although she stepped away from the craft while focusing on her education and corporate career, she eventually realized she was not fully using her creative abilities and wanted to pursue something she was passionate about.
Before making the transition, Abigail spent a year balancing her corporate job with her growing business. However, living in the rural community of Birmingham Landing meant a daily commute of approximately an hour and fifteen minutes each way. Managing both responsibilities became increasingly demanding, and she eventually decided it was time to commit to her business full-time.
After working in the banking sector for approximately five and a half to six years, Abigail submitted her resignation and took the leap into entrepreneurship. She credited her faith and the support of her parents as important parts of that decision, particularly as she navigated the uncertainty of leaving a stable job to build something of her own.
Jewelry Designed Around Your Personal Style
During the conversation, Abigail explained how customers can take part in designing their own accessories. They can choose from different chains, gemstones, and charms to create combinations that reflect their individual preferences.
The collection features stainless steel pieces, which Abigail highlighted for their durability and waterproof qualities. The goal is to provide jewelry that customers can wear regularly without worrying about tarnishing or changes in color.
Whether customers prefer simple, minimalist accessories or more distinctive designs, the customization options allow them to add a personal touch to each piece.
Personalized Pieces and Popular Designs
One of the brand’s standout offerings is its personalized initial rings. Abigail shared that these rings are made to order, with customers specifying their preferred letter or letters and ring size.
Introduced in 2022, the design has continued to attract customers. By creating each ring according to individual requests, the business offers an accessory that carries a more personal meaning.
Abigail also highlighted that jewelry is not exclusively for women. After noticing that men attending fairs and markets were interested in finding accessories for themselves, she began offering bracelets designed for male customers. Although this collection is currently focused on bracelets, it reflects her intention to make personalized accessories available to everyone.
A Hands-On Jewelry-Making Experience
The segment became a creative workshop as the hosts were invited to select their own materials and assemble personalized pieces with Abigail’s guidance.
From choosing chains and gemstones to selecting charms, the hosts explored different combinations before getting hands-on with the process. Abigail demonstrated how to use jewelry-making tools, including pliers and jump rings, to attach charms and bring each design together.
The activity gave viewers a closer look at the detail involved in assembling handmade jewelry while showing how a few carefully selected elements can transform a simple chain into a personalized accessory.
Building a Business Through Creativity and Confidence
Beyond the products, Abigail’s story offered a reminder that entrepreneurship can begin with a skill or passion that has been part of someone’s life for years. Her decision to leave a corporate career and pursue her creative interests full-time came with challenges, but it also gave her the opportunity to build a business around something she genuinely enjoys.
Her appearance on Open Your Eyes highlighted both the creativity behind Hey Abbz and the determination it took to turn a childhood passion into a full-time business.
