House Speaker Back On Duty After Cancer Recovery

Speaker of the House of Representatives Valarie Woods is back in the National Assembly building nearly a year after revealing her breast cancer diagnosis.

Her return was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister John Briceño, who greeted her at the House with words of encouragement. “We are so happy to see you back and that you are looking in great form. Despite the scare, you look younger,” he said.

In mid-October, Woods celebrated a major milestone by ringing the bell at her treatment centre, a tradition that symbolises the completion of chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. The ceremony was a joy-filled moment celebrated by Woods and others at the treatment centre.
