ICE Says It Arrested Belizean Convicted of Child Sex Abuse in New York

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says it arrested a Belizean man in New York who has a conviction for sexual abuse of a child under 11.

ICE named him Angel Agusto De Leon. In a post on its Facebook page, the agency said he is in the United States illegally.

According to ICE, De Leon was convicted of “acting in a manner that injures a child less than 17” and “sexual abuse (1st: sexual contact with an individual less than 11 years old).”

ICE did not say when or where in New York he was arrested, how old he is, when he was convicted or what sentence he received. The agency did not say what will happen next in his case.

De Leon was one of 11 people ICE said it arrested in New York. The agency described them as “criminal illegal aliens”, listing people from Ecuador, Honduras, Guatemala, Venezuela, China, El Salvador and Belize, with convictions or pending charges that ICE said include kidnapping, sexual offences, assault and weapons offences.

ICE framed the arrests as a contrast to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and what it called “sanctuary politicians”, saying they insist on releasing people it describes as criminals back onto the streets.
