Union Senator Glenfield Dennison says his stand in the BTL severance fight is not about money or politics but about honouring the memory of his late father.

Dennison, whose father worked more than a decade as a linesman at BTL before passing away in 2014, spoke openly about the personal motivation behind his advocacy. “My dad used to climb lampposts. That’s what fed me. That’s what sent me to school. That’s what educated me. In fact, I won a Digi scholarship for high school. This is for the love of a son to his father,” he said.

Asked if the controversy surrounding a leaked invoice has caused him professional trouble, Dennison was blunt. “None, none that I know,” he said.

He explained that he and BCWJ spokesperson Emily Turner had already weighed the risks. “Emily and I strategised very clearly about the implications this could have on my job. Emily is here to tell you that I resolved to tell her this: Emily, if they fire me over this, it is a worthy cause.”

Dennison insists his work with the workers’ group has been voluntary and rooted in social justice.
