‘I’m up to the task,’ Says Albert Vaughan as New NICH President
Albert Vaughan is back at the National Institute of Culture and History with a clear mission. He says he’s ready to safeguard Belize’s heritage while opening the door wider for the public to experience and enjoy the country’s rich cultural history. Vaughan previously served as a senior director at the institute before leaving to become Belize City Administrator.
“I feel very good because I believe that I’m able, I believe that I’m up to it, and I believe that I can achieve what the minister wants NICH to achieve,” Vaughan added. “I thank the Minister of Culture, who has that level of confidence in me.”
Vaughan said his immediate focus will be strengthening collaboration across NICH’s four institutions, protecting national heritage, and expanding public access to culture. He pointed to plans to improve archaeological site management, strengthen the festival of the arts at Belize City’s Bliss Center for Performing Arts, and bring cultural programming deeper into communities.
“We want to make sure that Belizean heritage is more accessible to Belizeans,” he said. “A lot of people don’t fully understand what this institution has to offer them.”
