Is Mayor Trapp Worried About PUP Spending in Cayo?

If reports of excessive spending at Sunday’s Belize City convention are accurate, the PUP has shown that it is prepared to spend heavily to win. Now, attention could turn west, where San Ignacio and Santa Elena remain the only municipality outside the ruling party’s control. Four-term UDP Mayor Earl Trapp knows the Twin Towns are a major political prize and expects the PUP to come after his seat with significant resources. But is the veteran mayor worried about facing a well-funded campaign? We asked him.

“Honestly, I only heard, overheard about the convention, but I have not really looked deep into what transpired there. But no, concern will always be there but like I always say, I try not to lose focus on the works that have been ongoing in this municipality since 2015 under my tenureship. I have always kept my relationship with the people, good working relationship, built relationship. We continue to work in the different sectors of this municipality and impacting the residents differently in a positive manner. At the end of the day, we continue to work hard and the people will decide with the blessing and the grace of God we shall come back, but the concern will be there that yes, they might bring some monies, but again the Bible always- you read the Bible will tell you that you do your part and God will do the rest, and we will continue to work hard for this municipality in making it the most progressive in the country of Belize. But yeah, we are ready.”
