Japan Donates ICU Ambulance to Northern Belize
A life-saving gift has arrived in the north. This morning in Orange Walk, the Government of Japan officially handed over a state-of-the-art ambulance to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Valued at over two hundred thousand dollars, this fully equipped ICU unit is set to strengthen emergency response at the Northern Regional Hospital. It’s a major upgrade for patient care in the region and Health Minister Kevin Bernard shared what this means for the community.

“I want to first start off by thanking the Ambassador of Japan and the people and Government of Japan for their generous contributions. As I highlighted in my message, this is not just one ambulance, but we have had contributions from them for several of our facilities. This is a second one for Orange Walk and this adds on to our fleet of ambulances. As we try to improve in terms of emergency care, an ambulance is the first point where you have to address any emergency. We want to ensure the ambulances we have are fully equipped. If you look in this ambulance you will see everything equipped. As I pointed out, this ambulance can also carry an ICU patient because it is well equipped with oxygen and all the things needed, from a medical standpoint. So this adds to the fleet of ambulances and the improvement of care to the people we serve.”
