Jerry Enriquez Sacrifices Time and Money for Reform
Taking on the government in court has come at a personal cost for Jeremy Enriquez. The ongoing legal battles have demanded his time, money and sacrifice, resources he admits could have gone toward other priorities. Enriquez says the journey has not been easy, but credits his legal team for standing firmly behind him at every stage. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to seeing the fight through, convinced that redistricting and greater government accountability will deliver the change Belize needs.
Jeremy Enriquez, Social Activist
“We are in court fighting the Belizean people. Belizean people have been taken for granted too much, by successive government administrations, political party administrations. They have take advantage of the Belizean people and in my view the place to settle it is in court. I wan to clarify that I am doing this with the support of a highly committed, dedicated, highly qualification, tenacious attorney. If I had a Belizean attorney doing this we probably would not have reached this far. So, I am very grateful for the commitment of my attorney and his team. I keep pushing as far as I could go, but they are to collecting anything. The cost of the court, whatever cost will go to them. For me, my family will tell you it has been a lot of personal sacrifice to dedicate myself to this cause. I could have been doing a lot of other things home and abroad. But I am committed to seeing that this foolishness of our leaders just lording it over people, taking advantage of the public funds.”
Enriquez says his fight is ultimately about strengthening Belize’s democracy and making it work fairly for everyone.
