JetBlue Drops Belize City Service as Part of Profitability Drive
JetBlue Airways will discontinue service to Belize City as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at improving profitability, the airline has confirmed.
The New York-based carrier will end its route between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) on May 21. The decision comes as part of the airline’s ongoing transformation program, branded “JetForward.”
JetBlue is also scrapping plans to resume seasonal flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) in May.
In a statement, a JetBlue spokesperson said neither Asheville nor Belize City “met our performance expectations,” adding that the airline would redeploy aircraft to “routes where we can sustainably win.”
Belize City joins a growing list of destinations cut under the JetForward initiative, which is designed to restore consistent profitability. Other cities removed from the airline’s route map include El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Colombia, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP).
JetForward aims to generate up to $950 million in incremental operating profit by 2027. The program includes cost reductions, network adjustments, and product investments such as the airline’s new BlueHouse lounge concept and expanded premium offerings. JetBlue has also announced a partnership with United Airlines as part of its broader strategic reset.
While trimming underperforming routes, the airline is expanding in other markets. At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), JetBlue plans to increase seat capacity by more than one-third during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. New non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale includes flights to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Orlando International Airport (MCO).
