Kaya: Evan Thompson’s Rejection Is the Nature of Politics
With less than two weeks to go before the PUP Belize City municipal convention, the race is now moving door to door and phone call by phone call. More than seven hundred delegates will decide who makes it onto the municipal slate, and Councilor Kaya Cattouse says her team is actively working to secure that support ahead of the August thirtieth vote. Cattouse is also responding to the exclusion of fellow councilor Evan Thompson from the race, calling it unfortunate, while saying she has not looked deeply into the reasons behind that decision.

Kaya Cattouse, Councilor
“Definitely have been on the ground from we got the delegate list about a week ago. We’ve been on the ground trying to reach out to all the delegates and preparing for August thirtieth.”
Shane Williams
“And your reaction to your colleague not being allowed to contest, Mr. Evan Thompson?”
Kaya Cattouse
“Definitely unfortunate. But sometimes that is the nature of politics, and you must move on. Do.”
Shane Williams
“You know why he was not allowed?”
Kaya Cattouse
“I’m not necessarily sure. I haven’t been able to delve so much into his issues. I’ve directly dealing with, with selling myself and selling the team that we have on the ground.”
The party has not explained why it rejected the sitting councilor’s application, but Secretary General Collet Montejo says the decision came from the Vetting and National Campaign Committees.
