KHMHA and Workers Union Resolve Long-Standing Pension Dispute

After years of disagreement, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) and the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Workers Union (KHMHAWU) have reached a settlement in a pension dispute affecting employees who served between 2001 and 2017.

According to a release issued jointly by KHMHA, KHMHAWU; and the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, the breakthrough came through mediation led by the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government. The Labour Commissioner and her team facilitated the dialogue that resulted in an agreement signed this week.

Under the settlement, qualifying employees still working at the hospital will receive an ex-gratia payment by December 31, 2025, while former employees will be compensated by December 31, 2026, once proof of employment is provided.

To ensure transparency, a joint committee of six representatives, three from hospital management and three from the Union, will review and confirm the list of eligible employees. Both sides say this mechanism is meant to safeguard accountability and foster confidence in the process.
