Kitchen Mishap Sparks Devastating House Fire in San Pedro

A quick trip to the kitchen turned disastrous for a San Pedro family Tuesday night, after a cooking accident sparked a fast moving house fire on Marina Drive. Around 7:35 p.m., thirty-one year old Naisy Chi was frying an egg when the hose connected to a gas tank came loose, igniting a rug and sending flames racing through the elevated home. By the time police arrived minutes later, the house was fully engulfed. Firefighters, led by Fire Chief Kenneth Mortis, managed to put out the blaze, but the damage was total. Chi quickly warned the others inside, allowing all ten adults and nine children to escape unharmed. No one was injured, but the fire destroyed the house and all its contents. The home was not insured, and the family is now left displaced, facing an uncertain road ahead.
