Land Titles Secured for Hol Chan Marine Reserve

The Hol Chan Marine Reserve has officially secured land titles for 11 parcels south of Ambergris Caye, a move authorities say will strengthen the long-term protection of one of Belize’s most important marine ecosystems.

Located in Zone C, the parcels include mangrove wetlands that serve as natural storm buffers and nursery grounds for marine life. With the parcels now registered under Hol Chan, the wetlands are permanently protected from private development, preventing any individual or entity from acquiring, developing, or selling the land.

The announcement was made by Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation and Area Representative for Belize Rural South. In a press release, Perez stated, “Securing these titles ensures that the areas in question remain safeguarded for conservation, sustainable management, and the benefit of future generations.”

The achievement was made possible with support from the Government of Belize, including Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde and the Ministry of Natural Resources, along with stakeholders and partners who continue to advocate for the protection of Hol Chan’s ecosystems.
