“Look at Me. I Am Belize @45”: September Celebrations Begin
September Celebrations is officially underway. The Annual Flag Raising Ceremony was held across different municipalities, including Corozal, Ambergris Caye, Belize City, and Dangriga. It marks the start of a month of nationwide activities celebrating Belize’s heritage, culture and 45 years of independence.
This year’s theme, “Look at Me. I am Belize @45,” calls on residents to reflect on the people, communities and accomplishments that define the country’s identity, according to the Council.
In his keynote address, Belize City Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller reminded citizens to see their role in nation-building beyond public office, saying, “You do not need to hold public office, lead a national organisation or perform some extraordinary act to contribute meaningfully to your country,” Miller said. “Belize is strengthened every day through the ordinary decisions of ordinary citizens.
The rest of the month is packed with patriotic activities leading up to September 21st for Belize’s Independence Day.
