Macario Coy Suspended from Being Justice of the Peace

Thirty-nine-year-old Macario Coy, an educator and former UDP senator, has been suspended from his role as a Justice of the Peace after being charged with a “serious offense.”

Coy’s suspension was announced in a Gazette Extraordinary dated January 5, 2026.

The notice states Coy “shall cease to perform, exercise, or discharge any functions, duties, or powers as a Justice of the Peace with immediate effect, pending the final determination of CASE MTOR 25000666 before the Punta Gorda Magistrate Court.”

Coy was arrested in November 2025 following reports made by a 36-year-old female teacher accusing him of sexual assault on November 4, 2025.

Coy turned himself in two weeks later to the Punta Gorda Police accompanied by his attorney. He was formally arrested and charged on November 21, 2025. He was granted a $3,000 bail.

Under the Justices of the Peace Act, anyone charged with a serious offence must step down from their duties until the case is resolved.
