Major Drug Bust Strikes at Heart of Lord’s Bank Violence
For weeks, we’ve been reporting on a troubling surge of violence in the Ladyville and Lord’s Bank communities, murders that investigators believe are not random but rooted in an escalating drug conflict. The killings of men in Ladyville, as highlighted in recent reports, have painted a grim picture of a territory under pressure where narcotics and firearms are driving deadly disputes. Tonight, that narrative takes a dramatic turn. A coordinated, intelligence-driven operation has uncovered what could be one of the largest drug seizures in recent memory right in the heart of Lords Bank. The haul is estimated at one point six million dollars in street value. Authorities say this is not just a weed bust, but a direct hit on the very networks believed to be fueling the bloodshed. Inside a modest apartment, officers from multiple specialized units, armed with surveillance and K-9 support made a staggering discovery: over a thousand pounds of marijuana, packaged in twenty-nine large bags, along with a loaded nine-millimeter pistol. It’s a find that underscores both the scale and sophistication of the operation allegedly running in the area. And tonight, one known suspect is being sought by police. Here’s Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith with more on what authorities are describing as a significant blow to organized drug activity in Belize’s northern corridor.

“On Wednesday eight April, 2026, a joint operation was carried out by personnel of the Gang Intelligence Investigation and Interaction Unit, the anti-narcotics unit, and the K nine unit of the police department at a property located in large Bank Village Leeville. This operation led to the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana being 29 large bags, which preliminary indication suggests it weighs well over 1000 pounds. Also sees at that property was a nine-millimeter pistol, which contained 12 live rounds of nine millimeter ammunition. These drugs were discovered in the room of an apartment building, and police are now seeking a person of interest in this matter. The person of interest is someone that has come under the police’s radar before and has been charged for job trafficking before. That is the extent to which I will disclose at this moment.

I know you said the investigation is in its infancy stage, but I assume that something of this magnitude took a while before today.

“What I will say, Mr. Vasquez, and it’s in line with what Commissioner Rosado has stated earlier. The department has been investing heavily in technology, in surveillance, in intelligence-led policing, and this arrest or the seizure today is a byproduct of that investment.”
