Man Detained After Shooting Leaves 29-Year-Old Critical
Police have detained a man and seized a licensed firearm following a shooting in Belize City that left 29-year-old Fredrick Sutherland in critical condition.
ASP Stacy Smith said the investigation began shortly before 8 p.m. on August 28, when officers on patrol were alerted to the sound of shots fired in the vicinity of Banak Street and Amandala Drive.
According to Smith, Sutherland and another person were riding a motorcycle when a man opened fire on them.
Sutherland remains hospitalised and is receiving treatment for his injuries. He is listed in critical condition.
Smith said police have not taken an official position on the circumstances surrounding the shooting as the investigation remains ongoing.
She said the male person in custody appeared to feel that he was under threat when the event took place. Investigators are also seeking statements from other persons who may provide clarity on what happened.
