Man Dies in San Pedro Bodega Fire

Police are investigating a fire in the San Pablo area of San Pedro Town that claimed the life of a man earlier tonight. Reports indicate that the remains of the man were discovered on the floor of a bodega after the fire was extinguished.

The victim is reportedly originally from Corozal but a long-time resident of San Pedro. He was well known in the community for his landscaping work and is said to have been employed by the property owner.

Video from the scene shows residents rushing to remove several golf carts from the yard as the fire engulfed the structure. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

The body will be transported to Belize City for a post-mortem examination. News Five has confirmed that the bodega belongs to Mercie Trejo, who is currently off the island.
