Man Found Shot Near Maypen Bridge

A quiet Saturday in Maypen was shattered when villagers stumbled upon a man fighting for his life near a small bridge in the community. Police say Lorenzo Smith was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and tonight he remains in critical condition at the KHMH. Investigators are chasing several leads, but so far, no one knows who shot him, or why. In fact, officers had to wait for Smith’s father to arrive before they could even confirm his identity. What they do know is that he was last seen in the village… and moments later, he was lying on the ground, bleeding and alone.

“On Saturday, police responded to a shooting at Maypen, in the Belize District. Upon their arrival, they found one Lorenzo Smith with multiple gunshot injuries. Information is that someone was passing the area by a bridge, when they saw Lorenzo Smith with the injuries. Smith was taken for treatment where he is listed in a critical condition at the KHMH. We’re following several leads but no one has been detained in regards to this shooting.”

“We do not know. We took some time to identify him. His father came afterwards and identified him. They only have information that he was in the village and then he was found with the gunshot injuries.”
