Marie Sharp Makes Forbes’ 50 Over 50 Global List
Belizean businesswoman Marie Sharp has been recognized on Forbes’ 2026 50 Over 50 Global list, which celebrates leaders, founders, creators, and innovators from 36 countries who are making significant impacts across industries ranging from aviation and architecture to minerals and mining.
According to Forbes, the list highlights individuals who have broken records, introduced groundbreaking technologies, or developed medical therapies with the potential to benefit millions.
Sharp, founder of Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods, began her entrepreneurial journey after leaving a career in elementary school teaching. She started experimenting with habanero peppers and vegetables in her garden, sharing her creations with family while working full-time at the Citrus Company. Encouraged by friends, she began selling her sauces in 1981, quickly gaining popularity and expanding into the U.S. market.
A trademark dispute eventually led her to rebrand, and in 1992 she launched Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods, now offering a full range of sauces, jams, and seasonings. Sharp’s contributions to the culinary world were recognized in 2016 when she was inducted into the Hot Sauce Hall of Fame.
