McDonald Cyberbullying Case Heads to High Court
Nichole McDonald remains behind bars tonight, and her cyberbullying case against former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams is now headed toward the High Court. The thirty-eight-year-old home care nurse and mother of five appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, where prosecutors confirmed that the DPP has directed the matter to proceed on indictment. McDonald, who is unrepresented, was given thirty pages of disclosure and a new date for a preliminary inquiry. She reportedly appeared confused as the magistrate explained that her case will no longer be handled summarily in the lower court. McDonald is already on remand at the Belize Central Prison after her bail was revoked last month. She had been ordered not to be arrested or charged while out on bail, but new allegations involving a neighbor, police officers, a doctor and a nurse led the court to deny her bail. She has pleaded not guilty to the earlier charges and is due back in court on July twenty-seventh and August third. McDonald says she feels victimized and targeted. She also told the court she is worried about her younger children, who are now being cared for by her two eldest daughters.
