A Mile 8 resident is behind bars tonight after being accused of kidnapping and assaulting his wife, a teacher, during a domestic dispute. Twenty-eight-year-old car dealer Anfernee Conorquie was arraigned in Belize City Magistrate’s Court for kidnapping and common assault. He pleaded not guilty to the assault charge, but no plea was taken for kidnapping, which is an indictable offense. Bail was denied, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. According to police, Conorquie allegedly violated a protection order by confronting his wife at their home, forcibly taking her dog, and later dragging her into a vehicle. She claims he assaulted her, took her phone, and sped off with her against her will. Despite her attempts to signal the police, Conorquie reportedly evaded capture during a high-speed chase across multiple highways before eventually releasing her. He now also faces a separate charge for breaching the protection order.
