Missing $150K Triggers Immigration Department Audit

The Auditor General’s Office has now turned its attention to the Immigration Department in Belize City, where more than a hundred and fifty thousand dollars reportedly went missing. A team has been deployed to audit the department’s finances and determine how the funds disappeared. As we have reported, former employee Jason Flowers is wanted in connection with the missing money. But auditors are now looking beyond one person to find out whether anyone else may have played a role.

“We have selected a team to go in. I am wondering how they are not questioning that team. A team is already there and they are focusing on the findings. There was an internal investigation. So we are using the internal investigation to go forward. We have created our own scope and I believe it is going good. They are presently waiting for records. Like I said, everything starts with the records.”

“Is there a timeline for that one?”

Maria Rodriquez

“All our investigations, even when we say two or three months. It is really highly dependent on whether the records are quickly available.”

Flowers remains on the run. Local authorities believe he fled to the U.S.
