More Details Emerge of Elderly Woman’s Murder
News 5 has additional information on the murder of an elderly woman who was discovered this morning inside a house on the Old Northern Highway, about five miles from Santa Martha Village in the Orange Walk District.
The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Estel Louise Trapp, who was found lying face up in the bedroom of a small wooden structure with zinc roofing. She was covered with a purple sheet, dressed in a floral nightgown, and had visible head injuries.
According to reports, a 56-year-old man placed multiple calls to the Orange Walk Police Station between 3:00 and 5:30 a.m., claiming he had killed a woman during an argument. He provided the location.
At around 7:15 a.m., officers arrived, and the man met them and led them inside the house. Police recovered a metal hammer, believed to be the weapon used in the killing.
The body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where Trapp was pronounced dead.
News Five has confirmed that police have one person detained.
