Mother Fears for Son’s Safety After Pursuit Caught on Camera

A Belize City mother says she fears for her 17-year-old son’s life after surveillance footage captured him being chased by two men and a woman along West Collet Canal on Monday night. She claims that despite making a formal report, police have failed to provide meaningful assistance.

The incident, which was recorded by security cameras in the area, shows the minor running after the group exited a vehicle and began pursuing him. The mother believes the confrontation stems from an ongoing rivalry in the community.

“Monday night my son went to buy something to eat. He does not stay with me. He stays with a relative. But, he went out to buy something to eat. He said, he would ride on the bike quick and come back,” she said.

According to her, her son recognized the vehicle involved. “He said, mom I know the vehicle because I saw them in the vehicle earlier and from he saw the vehicle he knew it was them in it. He said he knew that once they only see he one that is when they would try that stupidness.”

The teen reportedly abandoned his bicycle and fled on foot. The mother says she went to the police station the following day to follow up on the report but encountered repeated delays.
