Mother Mourns Son Killed in Motorcycle Crash Near Blackman Eddy
The tragic death of 34-year-old Danny Mai has left a mother grieving. On Saturday, Mai was returning home to Santa Elena on his motorcycle after visiting his mother in Blackman Eddy village in Cayo District when his vehicle was struck by a Toyota Corolla heading towards Belmopan.
“My son was at my house; my son only wants to hear something happen to his mom, and Danny is coming,” Shirley Mai told News 5. “Danny was here because I wasn’t feeling good. Danny came to check on me because I wasn’t feeling good. And unfortunately, that incident happened. The drunk driver carelessly tried to overtake and hit my son. And the hurting thing is nobody; I got a call from nobody to tell me anything, not even the driver.”
Shirley described her son as a humble and talented young man. “Danny was not a drunkard that you can find drunk in the streets. Danny was the most humble person one can find,” she said. “He was good at drawing… From the smartness he had, he got an award from social security, and that was what put him through school.”
