Murder in Corozal, Drug Related

Police are investigating the murder of a Corozal man who was shot and killed on Friday night in a suspected drug-related attack.

“That is the information we’re receiving, it is drug related,” said ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crime Investigation Branch.

According to Romero, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Finca Solana area on October 31. “The person was identified as Arnaldo Vellos. He was taken for treatment to the hospital. Thereafter, he succumbed to his injuries,” Romero said.

Police say say the shooting was a targeted attack near Vellos’ home. The suspects, all from Corozal, are known to police.

Police have since launched a manhunt for three individuals believed to be connected to the murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
