Musa ‘Not Concerned’ Over Pou Court Case

We take you back now to our top story on Joseph Budna. Tonight, the case involving Police Constable Gabriel Pou is headed to the courts, and it’s raising serious questions inside the police department. Pou’s attorney claims he was deliberately transferred in an effort to silence him. This comes after Pou alleged he was pressured to sign a false statement following the abduction of Joseph Budna, a statement he says would have pointed blame at senior officers. Both the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Richard Rosado, and Prime Minister John Briceño have urged Pou to bring whatever evidence he has straight to the DPP. And today, former Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa weighed in as well, echoing that call for transparency. Here’s what he had to say.

Reporter

“His claim is that he has knowledge which he brought to the attention of officials within the police department of involvement of higher ups. Are you concerned that this getting to court may lead to information coming out?”

Kareem Musa, Former Minister of Home Affairs

“I’m not concerned at all, and I think the Prime Minister was perfectly right, that if there is evidence that is in his position, then he should share that with the DPP.”

Reporter

“Did you know him personally?”

Kareem Musa

“I do know him personally. Yes, he was assigned to the ministry, albeit I did not see him quite often, maybe once, twice a year.”

So, as this case heads to court, the message from leaders remains the same: if Constable Pou truly has evidence, he needs to hand it over to the DPP. Former minister Kareem Musa echoed that call today, saying transparency is the only way forward. We’ll keep following the developments.
