National Bus Company says Routes Remain the Same
The National Bus Company officially began operations today, with the government assuring commuters that existing bus routes and schedules remain largely unchanged.
In a statement, the Ministry of Transportation said all current departure times, routes, and service frequencies will continue as scheduled, except in cases where duplicate runs or closely timed departures need to be adjusted.
The launch of the National Bus Company forms part of the government’s Transport Modernisation Initiative and is intended to improve reliability and efficiency while avoiding disruptions to service. The ministry also said any future changes or improvements to bus services will be communicated clearly and in a timely manner.
But while the government has framed the move as a milestone in modernising public transport, reactions from commuters online suggest scepticism. One commenter wrote, “So all they are doing is changing the names on the buses and call that improved services, mien that is sad.” Another asked bluntly: “Old outdated buses are our national buses??”
Others questioned whether the rebranding would translate into tangible improvements. “How is the changing of name improve the bus system if it’s the same operators, the same routes, and the same minimum standards for buses, safety, and punctuality?” one post read.
For now, commuters are being told to expect business as usual, while many remain unconvinced that the new national bus company will deliver the improvements they have long been calling for.
