New Agreement Targets More Mexican Visitors to Central America

Tourism leaders in Central America and Mexico are looking to strengthen regional partnerships and bring more visitors to the region. At the Centroamérica Travel Market 2026 in Guatemala City, the Federation of Chambers of Tourism of Central America, FEDECATUR, signed an agreement with Mexico’s Association of Travel Agents, AMAV. The partnership will connect Mexican travel agents with tourism stakeholders across the region, giving agents more information about each country’s tourism offerings and helping them market those destinations to potential travelers. The agreement is also expected to create opportunities for training, cooperation, and stronger regional competitiveness. News 5 spoke with the presidents of both organizations about what the agreement means for tourism and regional collaboration.

“Today we signed two important agreements for the Federation. One was with the International Association of Tourism Corporation, and the other one was with the National Association of Travel Agents of Mexico. The significance of both of them really allows us, as the private sector, to be able to work with these organizations in terms of finding funding, cooperation funding that would be able to assist us also in providing trainings, and in providing us with other projects that we can do across the region. But more importantly, when we focus on AMAV, which is the Association of Travel Agents from Mexico, it will allow us to be able to use those agents that are there and train them in terms of what we offer as Central America and as our individual countries, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, and really provide them with information for them to be able to really promote the destination, for them to be able to bring those agencies into the region, and for us to be able to remain much more competitive as a Central American brand.”

“I am so happy because this agreement gets to all the members and gives the opportunity to increase and benefit all our members. This is one of the most important agreements in the Centroamerica, I think.”

The agreement gives 1,200 Mexican travel agents new opportunities to market Belize and Central America.
