New App Makes Kriol Easy to Learn
If you’ve ever wondered how to say “pretty” in Kriol, there’s now an app for that, and it’s completely free. The Belize Kriol Dictionary has officially made its way to the Google Play Store, giving Android users easy access to Kriol translations right from their phones. Just search for Belize Kriol Dictionary, download the app, and you’re ready to explore the vibrant language of Belize. Type in an English word like “pretty,” and you’ll instantly see the Kriol equivalent “priti” along with sample sentences in both languages. This exciting leap into the digital space was made possible thanks to the generous support of the SIL Dictionary and Lexicography Services Unit, who volunteered their expertise to bring the dictionary to life as a mobile app. And for those who prefer flipping through pages, the physical version of the dictionary is still available at outlets like Angelus Press, Brodies, Cubola Productions, Kuchriments in Belmopan, Love Lotus Supermarket in Ladyville, and the National Kriol Council. The dictionary is also accessible online via the Ministry of Education’s 501Academy platform.
