New Cabinet Decision Makes It Easier for Aviation Workers to Get Regional Jobs
Cabinet has approved the inclusion of aviation personnel on the list of approved skills under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
The decision means pilots, engineers, and other specialists working in the air travel sector can take up employment in other CARICOM member states without needing traditional work permits.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has been directed to notify the CARICOM Secretariat of the decision and to work with the Immigration Department and aviation authorities so the change is reflected in national procedures.
The CSME arrangement is designed to promote the free movement of skilled labour within CARICOM, allowing member states to share expertise and fill labour gaps across key industries.
Last October, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, and St Vincent and the Grenadines implemented full free movement arrangements among themselves, allowing nationals to live and work across those countries without the need for a work or residency permit.
