New CEO Takes Charge at Belize Central Prison as Era Ends
There’s new leadership at the Belize Central Prison after George Gomez was named the new CEO of the Kolbe Foundation by its Board of Directors. Gomez succeeds Virgilio Murillo, who has been working at the prison for the past twenty-four years. Gomez expressed his commitment to guiding the correctional facility, working alongside Kolbe’s staff, and advancing rehabilitation programs aimed at helping inmates reintegrate successfully into society. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprise, together with the Kolbe Foundation’s Board, praised Murillo for his years of service, crediting his leadership with transforming the Belize Central Prison under Kolbe’s mission and vision. In a Under his stewardship, the prison shifted away from punitive approaches, emphasizing education, vocational training, and counseling programs designed to reduce recidivism and prepare inmates for life after incarceration. Murillo will continue to serve as Special Advisor to the Board of Directors.
