New Regional Partnerships on the Horizon for Belize

Following a meeting between Pime Minister John Briceño, Guatemalan President Bernard Arévalo and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, new developments are coming to Belize. On Friday, the three leaders convened in Campeche, Mexico to discuss issues of regional importance. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francis Fonseca says that while the details of these new collaborations cannot yet be disclosed, new developments are coming soon.

“The other part of the meeting was a bilateral meeting between Belize and Mexico. I saw a meeting between Prime Minister Briceno, and President Sheinbaum of Mexico and their respective teams. And there we discussed many different issues, energy, trade, investment, tourism, education, culture and security, very importantly, security issues as well. So we thought it was a very productive meeting, a very productive day in in Mexico, in Campeche. And we were able to, I think, come out of it with specific outcomes in terms of all of those areas and agreements we reached that will obviously have to be followed up on by technical teams. But we’re very hopeful and optimistic about the outcomes of the outcomes of those meetings.”

“Can we get reports on those later? Because you say there are concrete outcomes.’

Francis Fonseca

“Yeah. Yes. But you’ll appreciate that, when the leaders meet, it has to be followed up by technical meetings to work out the details of those commitments that are made in those meetings. So we can’t say anything until those details are worked out. But yes. The objective is to, of course provide a complete briefing on what was agreed on, but it has to be done by the technical teams.”
