Nineteen Belizeans Honoured for Patriotic Service

Nineteen Belizeans were honoured for their outstanding service to the nation at the Tribute to Belizean Patriots, held at St John’s Cathedral and presided over by Governor General Froyla Tzalam.

In her remarks, the Governor General reminded Belizeans that patriotism is not limited to flag-waving on Independence Day.

“Each of the Patriots being recognised tonight has been selflessly embodying what it means to believe in Belize, and they do so without thinking about it,” she said.

“They have shown that love of country isn’t something done once a year. It is something practised every day and consistently demonstrated in the little things they do to build strong communities, to protect the vulnerable, and to protect the environment,” she added.

Last year, 28 Belizeans were recognised for their contributions across different sectors.

This year’s ceremony forms part of the 44th Independence celebrations under the theme “Belize at forty-four, stronger together, rising forever.”
