Nurse Attack at KHMH Lands Woman Behind Bars

A Santa Elena woman is behind bars tonight after she failed to post bail on an aggravated assault charge linked to an attack on a nurse at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Thirty nine year old Dulce Portillo stands accused of assaulting Registered Nurse Vivian Lino on Monday night after the nurse caught her slapping a hospital patient and stepped in. Police say Portillo turned on the nurse, shoving her onto a bed and later chasing her with an IV pole before security intervened. Portillo appeared unrepresented this morning before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where she was read a single charge of aggravated assault on a public officer. Although the prosecution raised no objection to bail, the court set bail at $2,000 with one surety and strict no contact conditions. Unable to meet those terms, Portillo was remanded to Belize Central Prison until her next court date on June 10, 2026.
