One Man Charged After Machete Attack in Caye Caulker

On Thursday, we reported a violent machete attack that had left a man injured in Caye Caulker. The victim had been identified as thirty-seven-year-old Mark Budd, who was a laborer from Orange Walk District. This week, a local tour guide, Alexander Fernando Cal, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on charges of attempted murder, use of deadly means, and dangerous harm. Cal is accused of attacking Budd, who suffered a partially amputated thumb, head injuries, and a cut to his elbow from a twenty-four-inch machete. Cal appeared unrepresented in court and was denied bail due to the severity of the alleged offenses.
