Orange Walk J’ouvert Death Case to Be Forwarded to DPP

Police have confirmed the death of 22-year-old Axel Carrillo, who lost his life at a pre-carnival J’ouvert celebration in Orange Walk on Sunday morning, September 21.

The incident happened just after five o’clock along Liberty Avenue.

Carrillo was originally from Orange Walk but had been living in San Pedro.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, confirmed that Carillo fell from a moving truck that was carrying music systems “when he [Carillo] fell, and the truck ran over him.” According to Romero, the truck was being driven by Elias Cowo.

Carrillo was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Romero confirmed that the case will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. “A determination will be made whether he [Cowo] will be charged,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Suga City J’ouvert – Juvee extended their condolences in a social media statement the same day of the incident. It said, “We extend our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Axel Carillo, the young man who passed away this morning during the J’ouvert. May God grant them strength during this difficult time.”
