Orange Walk Police Probe Brutal Murder of Beris Anglin

Police in Orange Walk Town are trying to piece together a horrific weekend murder. Forty-five-year-old Beris Anglin was found dead inside his home on Progresso Street early Sunday morning. His partner, Valerie Williams, made the heartbreaking discovery after returning from work, finding Anglin lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators say Anglin wasn’t a stranger to law enforcement; in fact, he had just been charged with a drug-related offense hours before his death. Authorities believe this wasn’t random, they suspect Anglin knew his killer. News Five’s Paul Lopez has the details.

Orange Walk Police are looking into the murder of forty-five-year-old Beris Anglin. His partner, Valerie Williams, made the grim discovery just after midnight on Sunday when she returned home from work, finding him lying in a pool of blood. The scene left her completely stunned.

“I mih gone work and then when I come home I mih the hail him and he did not answer. So I see the window open and when I gone by the window I saw him lying in a pool of blood. So, I went around and I never know the backdoor mih open and I jumped the gate and gone in and I touched him like this. I said he is dead.”

Anglin questions why the backdoor of their Progresso Street home was opened when she arrived. She says the door usually remains closed, especially at that time of the morning. She also did not observe any signs of forced entry, leading her to believe Anglin knew his killer.

Valerie Williams

“Deh mih have the neighbors, they have a bway weh live deh, I knock his door and told him. I told him that my boy is in the room dead and I told him if you hear anything. He said, yes I got shot too in my foot. I told him, and why you did not call police or anything. He just put a bag on his back and gone. I don’t know if he was afraid or not. But he just put a bag on his back and gone down the street.”

Williams says police later detained that person along with another individual. Today, ASP Stacy Smith told reporters that, based on everything they’ve gathered so far, the main suspect is someone Anglin knew.

“Police have since detained one person of interest in relation to this ongoing investigation.”

“Is Mr. Anglin known to police?”

ASP Stacy Smith

“Yes. Mr. Anglin is known to police. As a matter of fact, he was charged just a few hours prior for a drug related offense. He was given station bail and was to go before the magistrate Court today. There is no motive so far that has been established. The person of interest that has been detained interviews will be conducted to him to see how it advances this investigation.”

Shane Williams

“The person detained the police know if he’s a friend of the deceased?”

ASP Stacy Smith

“I believe that is the indication.”

He sustained almost a dozen gunshot injuries. Anglin’s bedroom window has bullet holes. It appears his killer fired several shots through the bedroom window from outside the house. The bedroom door was also riddled with bullet holes. Williams found him lying on the ground at the foot of his bed. Regarding the drug offense police mentioned, Williams says Anglin was selling marijuana, but only because a back injury had left him unable to work.

Valerie Williams

“Well I say, he sell his weed and stuff, but he is not somebody who trouble anybody or anything like that. I wont lie, he sells his weed, cause he cant work and sometimes I go about and do a lee job. But, if he does not have, he does not have and sometimes he would say, babe why don’t you leave me. I would tell him no, I won’t do that. I am not a person like that.”

Paul Lopez

“Could this have been related to the business he is in?”

Valerie Williams

“Maybe he owe somebody, because he does not like to tell me his business, but maybe he owed someone and that is what they came to do him.”
