Over 60 Bus Operators Ticketed in Early-Morning Transport Crackdown

CEO of the Ministry of Transport, Chester Williams, says enforcement remains a top priority as officials crack down on unsafe practices in the public transport sector.

Williams confirmed that senior officers, including the Chief Transport Officer, conducted inspections as early as 4:30 a.m. in areas such as Burrell Boom, Hattieville, and surrounding routes in recent  weeks.

He explained that the operation focused specifically on bus operators and was carried out in a way that avoided disrupting the daily commute for passengers travelling into Belize City. “For that period they issued, I think, 64 tickets to bus operators for failure to comply with conditions of road service permits and other infractions that were discovered on those buses,” he said.

According to Williams, the enforcement push follows growing concerns over safety issues involving public transportation, including fights, crashes, and reckless driving incidents. “We hear our people complaining every day about the lack of enforcement and the type of activities that these buses have been involved in,” he said.

Williams says similar operations will continue as part of its effort to improve safety on the roads.
