Owner of Miss Universe Charged with Alleged Drug Trafficking

Raúl Rocha, president and half owner of Miss Universe, has been charged for his alleged involvement in trafficking drugs, weapons, and fuel between Guatemala and Mexico, according to Telemundo.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has called on the Fiscalía General de la República during her morning briefing to confirm whether an investigation or arrest warrant exists for Rocha. Her request followed a media report alleging that he was charged with drug, weapons and fuel trafficking between Guatemala and Mexico.

“If there is an investigation to this person, the authorities must report it,” Sheinbaum said. “If there’s an ongoing investigation, then it should be known that there is one on behalf of the authority.”

The newspaper Reforma reported that Rocha was formally accused by federal prosecutors and is viewed as a leader of a network involved in smuggling fuel across the Usumacinta River. The report stated that the fuel is moved in boats and then transported in tanker trucks from Chiapas and Tabasco to Querétaro.

Sheinbaum said that the matter should not be linked to Mexico’s recent Miss Universe win. She said, “That is independent of the young woman who won the contest. It’s like they want to join both issues. They want to take away her merit.”
