OWTC Addresses Criminal and Reckless Behaviour
A recent act of vandalism has raised concerns over public safety in Orange Walk, as a “No Parking on the Sidewalk” sign in front of La Inmaculada R.C. School was removed and destroyed.
The school, in a social media post on Monday, said the sign was intended to prevent vehicles from blocking the sidewalk and ensure children could walk safely. The post also lamented the sign’s vandalism, calling it a “disrespect to community property” and urging community members to be vigilant.

The incident, reportedly shared on social media, is part of a growing pattern of vandalism of public property. In a statement on September 9, the council stressed that legal action will be taken against those responsible and called on the public to protect town infrastructure. The council also highlighted a recent theft of electrical wires from a newly installed light at Central Park.

Castillo expressed remorse to the community, the council, law enforcement, and his parents, acknowledging the danger of removing traffic signs and taking full responsibility for his actions. “This experience has been a big lesson for me, and I want everyone to know that it will never happen again,” Castillo stated.
