Parts of Old Capital Still Without Electricity
Belize City residents were left without electricity early this morning after a major transmission line fault triggered a widespread power outage.
According to Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), the outage occurred around 12:30 a.m. due to a damaged transmission line near the Westlake Substation at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway. The failure was caused by a broken utility pole, with repair efforts further complicated by inclement weather.
BEL says restoration efforts began immediately, and by 2:31 a.m., power had returned to several areas, including Belama (Phases 1, 2 & 4), Bella Vista, Buttonwood Bay, and Coral Grove.
As of the latest update, crews were still working to restore supply to the remaining parts of Belize City, with BEL estimating full restoration by 12 noon, once it is safe to re-energise the transmission line.
The outage also temporarily disrupted eRide bus services in the city.
