Pedal & Party: Taking Spin Class to the Next Level
More Than Just a Workout
Spin class is getting a new energy in Belize, combining high-intensity exercise with music, movement, and community.
On today’s episode of Open Your Eyes, Keith Jones, trainer at Power House Fitness Gym, introduced viewers to SPIN with Keith, a fitness experience designed to make exercise feel more like a party than a traditional workout.
Jones explained that the goal at Power House Fitness goes beyond simply exercising. The program focuses on building a community where people can work out, have fun, and motivate one another.
A Workout for Everyone
While spin is an intensive cardiovascular workout, Jones emphasized that participants do not need to be professional cyclists or already physically fit to take part.
The classes welcome people across different fitness levels, including participants with knee or back injuries. Riders are encouraged to work at their own pace and can remain seated during exercises when necessary.
Cycling also provides a relatively low-impact form of exercise while helping improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Jones noted that participants can burn hundreds of calories during a session, depending on the intensity and duration.
Where Fitness Meets the Party
What makes SPIN with Keith different is the atmosphere. Instead of simply cycling to music, participants move and dance along with the beat while riding.
The classes incorporate music, choreography, lights, and DJs to create a high-energy environment. Jones has hosted themed sessions including Latin Night, R&B Night, and Reggae, as well as private classes for birthday celebrations and running clubs.
The concept has even turned spin classes into an alternative way to celebrate birthdays and spend time with friends.
Building Community Through Movement
Jones also highlighted the social benefits of exercising in a group.
Participants who may not know each other at the beginning of a class are encouraged to support one another throughout the session. Simple words of encouragement can help riders push themselves and stay motivated.
For participants on the show, the sense of camaraderie, music, and positive atmosphere were among the reasons they would return.
One participant experiencing spin class for the first time said the encouragement from others helped him push through the unfamiliar movements, while another participant highlighted the music, energy, and opportunity to meet new people.
For athletes, the workout also offers a way to complement regular training. One participant who plays volleyball and basketball explained that spin helps him maintain his fitness and provides a different form of cardio from running or traditional gym workouts.
A Patriotic Spin for September
As part of the September celebrations, SPIN with Keith is also bringing the party to its classes in San Ignacio and Belmopan.
Jones shared that the September-themed sessions will feature a red, white and blue patriotic theme, with DJs joining the classes to add to the celebration.
Power House Fitness in Santa Elena, San Ignacio hosts spin classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Saturday mornings, while the Belmopan location offers evening sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, with an additional Wednesday class due to high demand.
Saturday morning sessions in Belmopan run from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., while evening sessions run from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a second Wednesday class from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
No Gym Membership Required
Another feature of the program is its accessibility. Participants do not need to be Power House Fitness members to join a spin class.
Sessions cost $20 per person, allowing anyone interested in trying the experience to participate.
Whether it is for fitness, stress relief, socializing, or simply trying something different, SPIN with Keith offers a way to get moving while enjoying the energy of a group.
With music pumping, riders moving to the beat, and a strong emphasis on community, the message from Keith Jones was simple: fitness does not have to feel like a chore—it can be an experience.
