Petville Gets $950K Water Generator Facility
Orange Walk has two new water infrastructure assets after officials cut ribbons this morning at separate ceremonies for a backup generator facility in Petville Village and a new elevated storage tank on Arthur Street, both part of Belize Water Services‘ 25th anniversary celebrations.
Prime Minister John Briceño and Area Representative for Orange Walk Central joined Minister of Public Utilities Michel Chebat and Orange Walk Town Mayor Ladrick Sheppard at the first ceremony, held at the newly built Petville Generator Facility. The $950,000 installation is meant to keep the water system running during power outages, reducing interruptions for residents in Petville and surrounding parts of the town.
PM Briceño marked the occasion by reflecting on how easily essential services go unnoticed. “I think that sometimes we forget the little things that play an important aspect in our daily lives. We could do without electricity, but we can’t do without water. And I know it’s a cliché, but water truly is life,” he said.
Attention then shifted to a second project later that morning, where Chebat and Sheppard gathered with Minister of Health and Orange Walk East Area Representative Kevin Bernard for the inauguration of the Arthur Street Tank.
The tank is expected to keep water flowing more steadily, particularly during periods of high demand. Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Sheppard said, “This project represents a significant investment of $750,000 toward improving the reliability and sustainability of our water distribution system.”
