Placencia Garbage Woes Ease as Road Works Start
We have an update tonight on a story we brought you last week about the garbage woes in Placencia Village. Back then, torrential rains had turned the entrance road to the solid waste site into a muddy mess, forcing the village council to dump garbage right at the entrance. It was a nightmare for residents and businesses along the peninsula. Well, there’s good news. A contract has now been signed to get those much-needed repairs done. Area Representative for Stann Creek West, Rodwell Ferguson, told News Five that all parties met over the weekend, and as of today, work is officially underway to upgrade that road. So, it looks like relief is finally on the way for Placencia.
On the Phone: Rodwell Ferguson, Area Representative, Stann Creek West
“On Saturday, the Placencia Village Council, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, in the presence of Mr. Charles Galvez and myself as the elected Area Representative met in Santa Cruz to sign a contract for the upgrade of the Placencia/ Seine Bight Dumpsite, which is closer to Santa Cruz Village and the contract is almost thirty thousand dollars Belize to do a complete improvement of the road going towards the dumpsite. I have to thank the Ministry of Rural Transformation for their quick response. We try to be very proactive and many times the villagers put pressure on us and sometimes it is limited. Over the last three weeks we had a lot of rain in the district. The demands are coming from many villages and the Ministry of Infrastructure has limited equipment. So, we are trying to address the need as they occur.”
