PM Briceño Backs Workers’ Severance Claim Against Telemedia

Prime Minister John Briceño is weighing in on a long‑running labor dispute, and he says the workers may be on solid ground. According to the Prime Minister, the Belize Communications Workers for Justice have a strong case in their push for severance from Belize Telemedia. Briceño argues there’s no legal time limit on severance payments, and that, one way or another, the company may have to find the money to pay those former employees.

“I think they have a meeting today. The board meeting is discussing that. But at the end of the day I said, some way has to be found to pay those people. I am not speaking, and I might get into trouble, because I am no attorney, but I don’t think there is a statute bar for your severance pay, especially when you were told you cant get it. It is not like he never want it. You were told you couldn’t. So, I do believe there is a strong case for these employees to get what is owed.”
