PM Briceño Has No Time for BTL-Speednet Merger Questions

Remember those rumors back in July about a possible shake-up in Belize’s telecom sector? Word on the street was that BTL might be looking to buy out Speednet Communications. Well, fast forward to today and there’s still no official word on that. So naturally, when reporters caught up with Prime Minister Briceño at BTL’s big event, they asked if that deal is still on the table. His response? Let’s just say… he wasn’t having any of it.

“As you look it over, one have to ask, are you looking it over as a future parent company or as the owner of your family business, Speednet. Is that deal still live?”

 

Prime Minister John Briceño

“I think you need to talk to other people about that. I will not comment on that. Maybe you need to talk to Jaime. His number is 670-1234.”

 

Reporter

“But he is your brother.”

“I am not going to go into a banter with you.”

“But you have to answer this.”
